Implemented correctly, online video now has the potential to have an immediate bottom line impact for any business. Bigger bandwidth, faster web connections, better technology, computers on every desktop. 2006 was the year internet video finally went mainstream.

Back in 2005, I started an experimental vlog called The HotBizz Report. A lot of people contacted me with questions and feedback. But what I really noticed, was that most of the emails I received were from people looking for help. They were asking things like, "Can you teach me how to do that?", "What kind of software and tools do you use?", and "How do I get my video online?"

I realized that the task of developing video presentations for the web could be quite overwhelming - especially for beginners and those not necessarily interested in becoming full-time video professionals.

One of the problems I encountered when I was getting started was the lack of an available full-featured Flash FLV video player. For example, I was looking for something that:

• Could easily be customized (e.g., different colors, sizes, intro/closing graphics, etc.).
• Would allow me to add clickable interactivity to the video presentations.
• Could provide me with viewer/usage statistics
• Would be useful for business purposes (e.g., "call-to-action" and viral marketing features).
• Could quickly and easily be updated without having to edit the video or any HTML.
• Would integrate with existing affiliate programs, enabling web videos to be used to help affiliates promote products and services.

Since nothing like that was commercially available, I eventually went ahead and hired the best programmer I could find to develop it (it's now called the WebVideoZone Player, and it's available to all WVZ members).

But another problem I saw was:

How do you make web video presentations that are interesting and compelling enough for others to actually want to watch them - and then do something?

You see, to be useful and effective, video should do one or more of the following:

• Inspire and motivate people to act
• Solve a problem
• Fill a want/need
• Educate and inform
• Entertain

Sure, anyone can put a video online of some moron skateboarding off a roof. But most professionals and business owners must do better. They need to have web video presentations that effectively communicate a message and motivate people to act.
