NLE (Non-Linear Editing)

In video editing and production, NLE refers to the term non-linear editing.

This is an editing method that allows you to quickly access any frame in a video clip with the same ease as any other.

As opposed to linear editing, which involved the physical cutting and pasting of analogue film, NLE is a non-destructive, digital process.

When producing digital video files, video and audio data are first digitized to hard disks. Once on disk, the files can be edited on a computer using any of a wide range of NLE software (e.g, Sony Vegas, Adobe After Effects).
