Viral Video: Chinese Backstreet Boys
The "Chinese Backstreet Boys" (a.k.a. "Back Dormitory Boys") recently found fame (and fortune?) thanks to a handful of viral videos of themselves lip-syncing songs such as "I Want it That Way" by the Backstreet Boys. Recorded using a simple webcam in their college dorm, their most popular video has been viewed nearly a million times at YouTube, and currently ranks number 51 at Google Video's Top 100 Videos list. Having recently graduated from the Guangzhou Arts Institute, Wei Wei and Huang Yi Xin have since signed on as spokespeople for Sina.com, a major internet portal based in China. And according to reports (how reliable, I don't know), some of their spoof music videos were also selected by Motorola China to promote their mobile phones. The BSB gained mainstream media attention in the U.S. thanks to The Ellen DeGeneres Show, helping to spawn countless parodies and imitators.
