Record your computer screen without special software

Do you want to record what you see on your computer screen? There are endless uses and reasons for wanting to capture and create this kind of video. But there are only three basic ways to accomplish it...

  1. Use third party software, such as Camtasia Studio from Techsmith.
  2. Set up a video camera in front of your monitor to record what displays on your screen.
  3. Output your video from your computer directly to your DV camcorder tape.

Here's an example of an onscreen recording using a camcorder, without any additional third party software:

With a bit of tweaking and experimentation, the resulting video could look even better (I forgot to increase the font size on my screen before shooting).
