Analog
An electronic transmission of a continuous signal of variable frequency or amplitude. Audio and videotape recordings are made using an analog process. In analog sound recording, the varying pressure created by a sound striking a microphone makes the amplitude of the current that passes through it vary. If the volume goes up, the current's voltage amplitude also goes up. The main disadvantage of an analog signal is "noise." As the signal is copied or sent over long distances, the noise gets worse. Shielding, good connections and coaxial or twisted pair cables can reduce noise.
